不可解な事件

数年前の夏のある日の事でした。

私ども家族は都内のあるマンションに住んでいるのですが、マンションの入り口にお菓子の箱が紙の手提げ袋の中に入れて、置いてありました。見たところ、値段的には数千円ぐらいのものでしょうか？ 心あたりがありませんので、誰かが間違えて置いたのだろうと、思いましたので、しばらくの間、そのままにしておきました。

しかし、数日たっても、何の変化もありません。

不思議なことがあるものだと思いましたが、どうしていいか分かりません。

管理人に話してみましたが、やはり何の問い合わせもないとのことでした。

家族で、気味が悪いな、食べるわけにも、いかないし、とにかく１週間ぐらい家の中に置

くこととしました。

ところが、何と１週間後に又、前回と同様、玄関の入り口にお菓子の箱が置いてあるでは

ありませんか。 今度はお菓子だけではありません。ぬいぐるみの人形まで入っているでは

ありませんか。 本当に驚くと同時に、恐ろしくなってしまいました。

誰が、何のために置いたのか？ お菓子の販売店は前回と同じで、４つ先の駅の洋菓子店で

した。包装はしっかりしていて、中に毒物を入れるような様子はありませんでした。

しかし、勿論、気味が悪いので食べる気もしません。

再度、管理人に相談しましたが、やはり心当たりもありません。

今回も前回と同様そのままの状態にしておきました。

１週間そのままにしても、何の変化もありません。

そこで、再度、そのお菓子を家の中に入れて、今度は、同じ事がおきるのか、家族で交替

に、玄関を見張ることとしました。

しかし、年中、見張続けるわけにはいきませんでした。その間隙をねらったのか、やはり、

１週間後に今度も同じ洋菓子店のお菓子が置いてありました。 ただ、洋菓子といっても、

その中身は外見から前回とは違う中身のようでした。今度は写真が入っていました。それ

は奇妙な写真でした。部屋の中の写真で、服装から判断して、若そうにみえる女性が後ろ

向きになった写真でした。ですから、顔は分かりません。肩には小猫を乗せており、その

小猫がこちらを向いている写真でした。

何だか、ミステリー小説の中の主人公になったような感じで、これからどうなっていくの

だろうと家族は不安げな面持ちでした。

どうしようかと皆で相談しました。 とりあえず、お菓子をもって、洋菓子店に行き、

売った人に心当たりが無いか聞いてみることにしました。ところが、洋菓子店では不特定

多数を相手にしているので、どこの誰だか、分かりませんとの事でした。

そこで、次に警察に行って、相談することにしました。

今までのお菓子３つ分（１万円程度か？）をもって、近くの交番に行きました。

次のような会話がありました。

警察官。 一体、何が起きたんですか？

私。 見知らぬ者がこんなにお菓子をマンションの戸の前に置いていったんですよ。気味が悪いのですよ。どうしたら良いでしょう。

警察官。 それで直接的な被害は何ですか？

私。 物理的な被害はありません。

警察官。 たとえば、お菓子を盗まれたとか、他の者がいたずらで、勝手に寿司を１００人分注文されて、支払請求をうけたとかでなければ、被害届は出せませんよ。

私。 それでは、遺失物として引き取ってください。

警察官。 なま物や食べ物は腐ってしまうので、引き取れませんよ。

それに、見たところ、しっかりした包装で特段の問題が無いようですね。

私。 じゃあ、どうしたら良いのですか？

警察官。 そうだな。 まあ、管理人に預けて、１ヶ月ぐらいしても何も無ければ、始末したらどうですか？ その間、私も、不審な者がうろついていないかパトロールに入れておきましょう。

私。 分かりました。

そこで、お菓子は管理人に預け、家族、管理人とで引き続き、監視をすることとしました。玄関の戸には次の張り紙をしました。

不審なものを置いた場合には警察に通報します。

そうしたら、隣の人が早速、これは何ですかと聞いてきて、返答に困ってしまいました。

その後、１ヶ月何事もなく、管理人の手によって、お菓子は始末されました。

その後も何も起こらず、事件は１件落着したかに見えました。

ところが、次にびっくりするようなことが起きたのです。

私が会社に行って、留守の間のことです。 ある３０歳位の女性がマンションにやってきたのです。私の妻が応対しました。以下はそのやり取りです。

その女性。 大変ぶしつけで、申し訳ありませんが、お宅の息子さんとお付き合いさせていただきたいのですが。

妻。 あなたですか？ お菓子を置いていったのは。でも、私の息子は高校３年生ですよ。お間違いではないですか？

その女性。 いいえ、確かに、駅の近くでお見受けし、とても素敵な人なので、後をついていきましたところ、このマンションに入りましたので、間違いありません。

妻。 お年も相当、離れているようですし、とても無理です。

その女性。 私は本当に一目ぼれしてしまったのです。 恋焦がれているのです。

どうか、お宅の息子さんにお取り次ぎ願えませんどうか？ お願いします。

又、参りますので、どうかよろしくお願い申し上げます。

以上のやり取りの後、一方的に帰ってしまったとのことでした。

息子に念のため、心当たりがあるか聞いてみました。

そんなの知らないよ というのが息子の答えでした。本当にそうかと聞くと、

しまいには怒り出す始末でした。

数日たって、その女性が又、現れました。

その女性 いかがだったでしょうか？

妻 申し訳ありませんが、息子はその気がないと言っております。

その女性 そうですか。

その女性はさみしげに帰ったとのことです。

その話を聞いて､お菓子に託された人を恋する女心、切なさを思いやって､私の胸は痛くなりました。

Mysterious affair.

It happened in some summer day, several years ago.

We live in an apartment house in the Metropolis of Tokyo.

One day, there was one cake box in front of our door.

Perhaps it’s cost is about 3000 yen. I don’t know whose box is it.

I think some man mistook to put it. So I leave it alone.

But while some days, there was no moving. I thought it was strange.

What should I do ?. I asked to house manager. But he did not know about it.

Our family was worried and of course we could not eat it.

I put it in my house about a week or so.

Next week, there was another cake box with a doll in front of the door.

We were very astonished at it and felt scarcely.

Who put it ? What is the object ? The name of cake shop was same.

It’s shop was near four station ahead from here.

The envelope of the box was tight. So I thought there was not poison in it.

But of course we don’t want to eat it. I consulted the house manager, again.

He didn’t know about it, too. I leave it alone, again. There was no change for a week.

So, we put it in the house and watched by turns if same thing happened in front of the door. But we could not always watch.

After a week, we found a cake box in front of the door, while we could not watch.

This time, a photograph was in it’s cake box. It was a very strange photograph.

The lady was turned her back. So I didn’t catch her face.

But she was seemed young judging from the clothes. A cat was on her shoulder

and the cat looked at this side. It was very mysterious. We are very anxious for future.

I went to the cake shop after consulting with my family.

I asked a clerk who bought the cake. But he did not know who bought it.

Next I went to police box to consult. Next conversation was talked each other.

Policeman: what happened ?

I: A stranger put these cake box in front of my house door.

We are very anxious about it. What shall I do ?

Policeman: what is the direct damage.

I: There was not maternal damage.

Policeman: you can offer a damage report us in case of next thing.

For example, a cake box was stolen. Or, other person ordered many dishes

to restaurant for you by mischief and you were claimed to pay for it.

I Please, take these cake box for a lost article.

Policeman: I can’t take it as these cakes will rot soon.

If I were you, I will eat it. Because these package are very tightly.

I Well, I give it to you. Please eat it.

Policeman: Judging my role, I can’t do it.

I: What shall I do ?

Policeman: Well, you had better deposit it to your house manager.

I will patrol around there whether a stranger is or not.

I : I see.

So, I deposit these cakes to the house manager.

And, we decided to watch around the door, with my family and the house manager.

I put a next paper on the door.

If some one put a strange things, we will report the police.

After soon, a neighbor called me what it was. I was perplexed to answer.

There was nothing while about a month. Those cakes were spoiled by house manager.

But astonishing accident happened. One 30 years or so came to my house.

My wife receive the visitor.

Visitor: I would like to intercourse your son.

Wife: Did you put some cakes ? But my son is still a high school student.

Don’t you mistake ?

Visitor: No, I saw your son. He is very wonderful, charming person. I followed him.

He entered your house.

Wife: A age is far from your age.

Visitor: I loved your son, just looking at him. Please connect him. I will come soon.

After that, she returned. My wife asked my son whether he knew her or not.

But my son said “I don’t know.”. My wife asked again, “Is it true ?”.

My son very angered to hear it.

After some days passed, the visitor appeared again.

Visitor: How about it ?

Wife: I am very sorry to say, he will not intercourse.

Visitor: Is that so？

The visitor returned lonely.

After hearing it, my heart was injured thinking her dearest heart, painful feeling.
